Ignore Positive Comments on your Work. Appreciate Negative Ones.

Hi all,

I am Aditya Kumar, the idea behind ShutterSync. I have been doing photography since many years and it has been 2 years I am doing it professionally.

I would like to share some of my experiences with all you photographers.

Every photographer I know, including me, learned a lot by hearing the harsh truth when it comes to the quality of a photo they made. I mean, how would you know if you need to improve something if it is not pointed out explicitly by someone else?

However, it’s not always that easy. Nowadays, it is hard to find an honest and constructive critique on your work. Even when you are given a dose of critical feedback, many photographers tend to skip the negative comments and enjoy the positive ones.

Positive Commenting. What’s Wrong With That?

A while ago I was attending a photowalk and the host, whose name I can’t remember, said something quite shocking to the crowd there:

“Ignore positive comments on your work. They are too easy to get nowadays, and most likely they are hypocritical just to make you feel better, or they have no idea what they are talking about. Even if they are correct, you can’t learn nothing from them”.

So, this is what I achieve in these many years.

- We expected a lot from you.

- The picture is not up to the mark

- This is not what I was expecting.

- The angle is not good.

- Any other photographer would have done better than this.

- You are too expensive

- I could take better pictures than these with a basic camera of mine.

- You are not even considering our ideas

Years pass by and criticizers will do their job helping us learn more..But our passion and dedication towards photography will never change!
